Greyhound is for anyone without deep pockets for travel. This includes members of society with whom most of us would rather not deal.. The Greyhound staff, unfortunately, don't differentiate between those people and the well bred, good mannered folk. The staff don't seem to be overseen or adhere to many rules as far as treating customers well and with kindness. I can't believe they are still in business. Top to bottom overhaul is needed.

The two worst trips I had were Vancouver to Windsor, Ontario in the middle of winter on a bus. And then Barcelona to Rome on a bus. At the Italian border, the bus was boarded by sniffer dogs and they found cocaine in someone's luggage. There was a long hold up while the police figured out whose drugs they had found. Several African passengers were accusing my girlfriend and I, saying "It's the Americans". We're Canadian. But it turned out to be a Colombian woman who was arrested. The funny thing was that my girlfriend was wearing this short plaid skirt and heels, and the cops were completely enamoured. Tongue wagging enamoured. They completely ignored the African's accusations and gave them all a hard time, searching their stuff and background checking them. One was detained, probably for being an illegal migrant. So funny. Fucking bastards had no reason to be pointing fingers at us and made life hard for themselves doing it. Anyhow. I hate buses and refuse to travel on them anymore. Those are two of many other miserable long trips on buses. Cross-America on a bus would be a nightmare. No thanks.

I suspect that the drunk guys standing in the aisle during the takeoff were military or Government and the cabin crew didn't dare force them to sit and buckle up. Higher-ups in Authoritarian countries can get away with a lot, as long as they don't piss off the Big Boss. I imagine that if Kim Jong Il ever flew anywhere and didn't want to sit down during the the takeoff or landing, who would make him?

If the music from the entertainment system also keep the cabin personell awake, it is actually a real safety hazard. The rules for the personel to get enough sleep, are quite strict. It should be possible to tip off aviation authorities about thus. Imagine the need for the personel to perform their best during an emergency and not being able because of lack of sleep. I would though believe, that the pilots somehow, have a better place to sleep, but until authorities have investigated this, you never know.

if only the US wasn't built on car-centric infrastructure and only the "undesirables" take the bus or transit, just unbelievable

Garuda back in 2002 for a few months operated a non stop Jakarta to Frankfurt which carried onto London Gatwick, it was Garuda first non stop. Shame it only lasted a few months.

I have made that Wellington - Blenheim flight, and it may have been on Sounds Air. It was a little puddle-jumper plane, and I remember being surprised by the very light security in Wellington. Simply walking across the tarmac to the plane just felt weird! And if Blenheim airport feels new, that's because I think it is. There weren't much in the way of facilities when I landed there back in 2004!

I flew in one of those 19 seater planes in NZ in a cyclone. Never been so scared in my life. I remember now the pilots just turn round to make the announcements. They also directed me to the nearest bin as I staggered off green to the gills with my filled sick bag.

You haven't LIVED until you've taken a Greyhound from NYC to Atlantic City and back (especially the return leg late at night), with all the drunken gamblers and party heads on board. It's a sight to behold!

Protip: That ATM he used is a 7-11 ATM. They're fantastic and anyone who comes to visit me never has an issue with them. 😊 Also there's express trains to Narita for not much more than the regular train.

Great video Noel. I live in the Wellington area and have often seen Sounds Air but never flown on them. We will definitely consider flying with them if we head over to Blenheim in the future. What a wonderful thing to do to invite you into the cockpit. Glad you have a great experience.
